Hamilton: "I assumed I could go to the end"
Lewis Hamilton was a frustrated figure at the end of the race as he was made to pit when he felt staying out was the clear option to take.
"I didnt know i would lose two places. Ocons tyres went to the end so I assumed mine probably could've. The tyres are bald so you dont really know how far they'll go, so there is no worry about the life of the tyre", said Hamilton to Sky Sports.
"In hindsight, I probably should've stayed out or pitted earlier. When you come in with 8 laps to go, you dont have time to go through the graining stage."
Hamilton had the opportunity to finish in a vital P3 today having started from P11 but through a lack of communication the Brit was made to pit and could only manage P5.
Looking Ahead
With the next race in Austin, a favourite of the Mercedes team, Lewis will look to get back to winning ways and close that gap down again to Verstappen.
