Mercedes tempers expectations: 'It isn't a guarantee'

Mercedes made a very strong impression with its top speed during the Turkish Grand Prix. It immediately caused Red Bull Racing great concern, but according to James Allison, the German team is far from winning.
Mercedes' engineer saw an excellent performance from Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton in Turkey, although he also provides a side note. "I think it is difficult to take Turkey as a sort of yardstick for what we can expect from the rest of the season," he judges in a YouTube video of the team. "It was a very strong weekend. But it is an unusual sort of place, it is an unusual sort of tarmac."
Furthermore, Allison states that in a Formula 1 race, it's not just about speed, but it's also important to go through the corners fast. "On average I think we have shaded it but in most of those places where we have been the quicker car, it has been more of a sort of coin toss than a sort of guarantee. What I think that means is that we at least are in the fight. We are enjoying the hunt for this title."
Hamilton versus Verstappen
Max Verstappen recaptured the lead last weekend in Turkey. The Dutchman has a six-point lead over Hamilton. Both drivers have six races to go.
