After one year of absence F1 returns to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas for the United States Grand Prix. Pirelli looks ahead to an exciting weekend.

New asphalt at COTA

The Italian rubber manufacturer needs a lot of data to bring the right set of tyres for the drivers every race. Even with all the data Pirelli still makes a lot of blunders. It is therefore exciting to see how the Italians have estimated the tarmac for the upcoming race weekend.

There is no data from 2020 and also this year there is no new data available on the asphalt, because the Pirelli people were not allowed on the track for the preparation due to Covid-19 measures. The fact that over forty percent of the asphalt surface has been renewed since the last F1 race makes this an interesting fact for the upcoming weekend.

Pirelli selects middle ground

Top executive Mario Isola let it be known via Pirelli: "The characteristics are a question mark for everyone and we will only discover the final effects on tyres and car performance in general when we are there."

Pirelli has chosen the middle three tyres; the C2, C3 and C4. Isola: "With the championship battle so finely poised as we enter the final few races of the season, it’s clear that every element of strategy will count – as we saw at the last race in Turkey.”
