Lewis Hamilton was the undisputed world champion in recent years, but that has changed this year. Max Verstappen interfered in the title fight from the first race in Bahrain and is still on top of the world championship standings. It makes Jos Verstappen feel very proud.
The father of the Red Bull Racing driver sees that the Austrian racing stable has got it right this season. With a completely different car to Mercedes, the team has managed to stay ahead of the competition at several circuits, giving Verstappen the opportunity to take the win. The Dutchman is in great shape.
"Without Max, Lewis would have been world champion by now," the former Formula One driver therefore judges in conversation with Formule1.nl. "Max does get a lot out of the car, let's be honest. That's what makes it so spectacular. He is a fighter. And that's what people want to see anyway."
Battle between Hamilton and Verstappen
Hamilton and Verstappen have five Grands Prix remaining, starting with the race weekends in Mexico and Brazil. When the two races are over, the Formula 1 circus will move on to Qatar and Saudi Arabia, before concluding the season in Abu Dhabi.
