Pirelli expect many one-stops in Mexico
- GPblog.com
Pirelli have announced that they think a one-stop from the medium tyre to the hard tyre is going to be the fastest stategy in Mexico on Sunday. This is good news for many drivers who set their times in Q2 on the medium tyre.
Few pit stops expected
According to tyre supplier Pirelli, the best option in Mexico would be to start on medium tyres and replace them with the hardest tyre between lap 22 and 32. After that, there would be no need for another pit stop for the drivers who choose this option. The other option to make a one-stop is to start on the hard tyre and after about 50 laps swap it for the softs.
There are always drivers who choose an alternative strategy and Pirelli has already calculated it. If a driver starts on the medium tyre and changes it early for the hard tyre, they'd be able to pit for mediums again around lap 48.
