Frederic Vasseur is saying goodbye to Antonio Giovinazzi with pain in his heart, but is also very happy with the arrival of Guanyu Zhou. The Frenchman thus welcomes a completely new line-up at Alfa Romeo in 2022 with Valtteri Bottas and Zhou.
Vasseur bids farewell to Giovinazzi
The Formula 1 grid for 2022 is now completely known. The last seat that was still available was the second seat at Alfa Romeo. Giovinazzi hoped to keep that seat, but it was announced Tuesday morning that the Italian will lose his place in F1 to Zhou. Vasseur regrets having to say goodbye to his pupil.
“Saying goodbye to a driver is never easy, especially so in the case of Antonio, who has been part of the team for so long. As we part ways, we will cherish the memories of the good times and learn lessons from the bad ones, knowing these moments all made us grow together as a team. We wish Antonio the best for his future after the 2021 season: before then, we still have three races to achieve some good results together and finish the year strongly," Vasseur said in the press release.
