Lewis Hamilton makes no secret of the fact that he feels right at home in the United States. Ahead of the first Formula One Grand Prix in Miami, he is already making an appearance on an American talk show to discuss his expectations for the race.

On Monday morning, Hamilton was visiting Good Morning America of the television channel ABC, where the presenter begins the conversation about the Mercedes driver's knighthood. He jokingly asks if he now has to address him as "Sir" and if he now forces his friends to do the same. "Just my dad," jokes the Briton, who says that knighthood has not really changed his daily life.

Hamilton looking forward to 'nerve-wracking' weekend in Miami

How is he experiencing the run-up to the first race in Miami? "It's been nerve-wracking," replies Hamilton. "It's a huge event for us." He is referring to the growing popularity of the sport in the United States and the fact that more races will be held there starting this year.

Hamilton therefore believes that Formula 1 has now definitely broken through in America, thanks in part to the Netflix series Drive to Survive. "I've been coming here for a long time, but I never understood why people weren't so interested in Formula One," he said. "The Netflix show, particularly through the pandemic, has drawn a massive awareness to the sport," Hamilton said.
