Fernando Alonso will start Sunday's race in Canada behind Max Verstappen. While the Dutchman jokingly called him "old" in the press conference, Alonso can stand this humor and even decided to add a dash to it in front of the cameras of Sky Sports.

The Spaniard has had an excellent weekend. Alonso managed to end up in the subtop twice on Friday, while the next day he even finished winning the third free practice session. In qualifying he was good for the second time, behind Verstappen.

Alonso is keen to achieve a fine performance in Canada and is therefore challenging Verstappen ahead of the race. Indeed, on the words of the reigning world champion, Alonso said, "I will pass him tomorrow." With that, he seems to be hinting at an early overtaking action on the first lap.

Verstappen impresses in qualifying

By the way, Verstappen was a lot faster than Alonso in qualifying. In Q3 he proved capable of gaining over six tenths over a lap. Carlos Sainz finished in third place, while Lewis Hamilton and Kevin Magnussen qualified for fourth and fifth positions respectively.
