Hamilton narrowly avoids Magnussen and saves Mercedes front wing
- GPblog.com
Lewis Hamilton had almost finished without completing a really fast lap in qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver almost popped into the back of Kevin Magnussen early in Q1.
The seven-time world champion had to hit the anchors full-on, making a last-minute move to the right to avoid a touché with Magnussen. Hamilton asked his team to check for front wing damage and immediately dived into the pit lane.
Magnussen's action, incidentally, will be reviewed by the stewards after qualifying. It is possible the Danish driver was guilty of 'holding up' Hamilton.
