Sergio Perez did himself no favours ahead of the British Grand Prix. The Mexican had just switched from intermediates to softs, but in his out-lap he ended up in the gravel.

Perez has been performing disappointingly recently. Despite that, he was given a contract extension before the Canadian Grand Prix. That contract extension has not yet paid off positively: since his extension, the Mexican has scored just 11 points, while teammate Max Verstappen won twice.

During qualifying, several drivers switched from intermediates to softs. Perez struggled at Copse, after which he did not get his car steered and he spun. The Red Bull Racing driver ended up in the gravel, from which he could not get out.

For Perez, there could not have been a worse time for a crash in Q1. The Mexican may have just extended his contract, but he has clauses in his contract that mean he could still be replaced. So the pressure from Red Bull on Perez is huge.
