George Russell had a heavy crash during the opening 15 minutes of the second free practice session, which is dedicated to testing Pirelli tyres for the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Russell lost control of the car over the kerb and spun at high speed. He went sideways into the barrier and stopped with a large impact. Russell climbed out of the car unassisted but seemed to be holding his ribs as he walked away. He has gone to the medical centre.

It marks Russell's second crash in short succession. He crashed during qualifying for the United States Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver managed to recover and scored points.

The barrier is currently being prepared, and action will soon resume. Follow the liveblog here.
