11 July 2020 at 15:56

It was raining a lot in Spielberg, but despite that the qualification for the Styrian Grand Prix took place. On the full-wets the whole field went on the track and for a long time it looked like everyone managed to keep their car on the track. Antonio Giovinazzi however lost control of his car towards the end of Q1.

The Italian was in the danger zone and had to push hard to get a good lap time and continue towards Q2. He lost control of his car in turn nine after coming to the kerbs. Then the Alfa Romeo driver shot over the grass and hit the wall. In the end a red flag came out, causing the first qualifying session to end prematurely.

Wet track causes problems

The wet track causes several drivers to have trouble with the track. There is very little view on the track and the track is still very wet. Lewis Hamilton eventually took pole for tomorrow's race.
