McLaren presented the new MCL35M with the new Mercedes engine on Monday. At first glance, not much seemed new about Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris's car, but Craig Scarborough explains the details.
The analysis of the MCL35M
In a new video, Peter Windsor has invited Craig Scarborough to do a detailed analysis of the new MCL35M. At first glance, McLaren's car looks sleeker and the smaller sidepods stand out, but the F1 expert sees more in the images released by the team.
According to Scarborough, the sidepods are indeed a lot smaller, and the air intake has also been modified. According to Scarborough, we can expect the same kind of exhaust and sidepods from Mercedes. Scarborough also mentions the disadvantage McLaren had with the engine change because where all competitors could use a few tokens to find performance, McLaren had to use those tokens to fit the engine. More power for McLaren, but less aerodynamic gain.
