Michael Masi is in conversation with The Race. Masi addressed the issue of why Max Verstappen's crash triggered a red flag and Lance Stroll's did not. The FIA chief also explains why the race was 'simply' finished with just two laps to go.
Formula 1 has the option to wave the chequered flag if 75% or more of the race has been completed at the time of the red flag. Nevertheless, Masi decided to run the last two laps after all. "At that point in my opinion the best option was to suspend the race, clean everything up, and then have a race finish. For a number of years now, we’ve had the race suspension regulations. So going back many, many years ago, when a race was red-flagged after a certain distance, it would go back two laps and so forth," he said.
"There is an option to not restart, but within the timeframe and within the format of the regulations, we can restart and there was no reason not to.”
And why was Verstappen's crash good for a code red and Stroll's was not? "In the middle of the race, there was more than enough time and space on the right hand side of the track when we were recovering it. I was confident with the way that could be cleaned up in that fashion."
LH would of benefited from the RF restart if he hadn't shot off the track. He nearly got ahead. Finishing under the SC would of meant finishing at 2nd place with no opportunity for first. He is typically very lucky for whatever the bloody reason. I actually thought it was more clear on the track when Ver crashed as the circuit looked like it widened. No reason they couldn't have cleaned with space to the left either.
It was done hoping LH would win. All the rule changes when ferrari were nipping at MB heels were made to keep ferrari at bay.
lol funny. So 2 big rule changes in 17 and 21 were done to slow Ferrari down. Because in 16 and 20 Ferrari were nipping at their heels lol. Go back and check before you make claims like that.
The red flag was never going to help. It just put everyone back in the mix and a chance for something to go wrong. If Masi wanted to help Lewis, he would have just finished the race under SC. So this red flag had nothing to do with helping any driver. As usual , the fans who think it was done to help any driver is just a fake blind fan. It was done for the show to make things entertaining.
Your master is starting to fall hey Nathan-old that's blind...
2 circuits that suit Redbull, now the flexi wings are banned, and Max only has a 4pt advantage. Thats pretty good from the Mercedes/Hamilton side.
LUCK...It is was what it is when it come to Lewis........THATS MY POINT!!!!!!
Michael Masi thought LH going to win............Not this time buddy....Big mistake!!
Maybe it's a coincidence, but the suspicion is great, considering how Perez has never excelled at a standing start.
