Formula 1 and Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management (ADMM) have extended their contract, Formula 1 announced. This means that at least until 2030 the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi will be used for the finale of the Formula 1 season.
Denouement of the world title in Abu Dhabi
"We are delighted to confirm that we will be racing in Abu Dhabi until 2030 under this new agreement," Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali revealed in a press release. "The promoter, ADMM, always provides an incredible spectacle for the final race of each F1 season and combined with the changes made to improve the racing at the Yas Marina Circuit, we are excited about the many years of racing in Abu Dhabi that lie ahead."
This weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the scene of the thrilling denouement in the World Championship. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton will start Sunday's race with the same number of points. It is the first time since 2016 that the championship will be decided in Abu Dhabi, for years the last Grand Prix of the season. "We are hugely looking forward to the season finale this weekend when even more Formula One history will be made," said Domenicali.
Getting to know Abu Dhabi through Formula One
Saif Al Noaimi of ADMM is also delighted with the extended partnership with Formula One. "This will allow us to introduce hundreds of millions of spectators and TV viewers to Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates. The signing of a new multi-year agreement with Formula One not only demonstrates the strength of our relationship but also reaffirms our commitment to providing an unrivaled world-class race weekend experience for all visitors to enjoy."
Abu Dhabi has been on the Formula One calendar since 2009, often as the close of the season. Lewis Hamilton is by far the most successful driver at the circuit with five wins. Sebastian Vettel won the race three times. Last year, Max Verstappen managed to keep Mercedes from winning for the first time in seven years with his dominant win.
