Will Verstappen follow Vettel? 'Maybe a new era of dominance'
- GPblog.com
The debate about the end of the championship goes on and on. Not everyone agrees with the way the FIA acted in the final laps of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Former F1-driver Jolyon Palmer is of the opinion that Max Verstappen more than deserved the championship. He wonders how things will continue for the Dutchman.
In his column for the official website of the Formula 1 Palmer discusses last weekend's race. The Brit praises Verstappen for his performance and notes that he has matured over the years.
Verstappen took pole position in ten races, which is almost half of the races. With his aggressive driving style, the Dutchman was not afraid to take on seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. According to Palmer, Verstappen regularly put his car in risky positions and is not afraid to push the limits of the stewards.
New dominance?
The Red Bull driver is only 24 years old and has already won his first title. Palmer wonders how things will progress for Verstappen now. When Sebastian Vettel won his first title at Red Bull, it was the start of his string of championships. Does the one-time world champion await the same?
"For a driver who has demolished three successive team mates in three years and made only a handful of small mistakes in that time, you question what scope their even is for improvement – but if he can take his game onto another level from here, we could be about to see the start of a new era of dominanc", Palmer writes.
