Liam Lawson in F1

His Formula 1 debut came in 2023 when the 23-year-old had to replace the injured Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri. In 2024, Lawson again replaced the Australian, but this time permanently. After a total of eleven Grand Prixs with the sister team, it was announced that Lawson would replace Sergio Perez and race for Red Bull Racing alongside Max Verstappen from 2025.

Liam Lawson in 2025

The 2025 season presents an exciting challenge for Liam Lawson. The New Zealander will race for Red Bull Racing, where he will be Max Verstappen's teammate. Many drivers have tried to match Verstappen's performance but failed. At just 23 years old, Lawson will aim to perform at his best and stay as close as possible to Verstappen.

In 2025, several rookies will be given opportunities with strong teams. For instance, Andrea Kimi Antonelli will make his debut with Mercedes. Rookies Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar, Jack Doohan, and Oliver Bearman will also get a chance in F1.

Drivers Who Were Verstappen’s Teammates Before Lawson

Liam Lawson will become Max Verstappen's teammate starting in 2025. Several drivers have come before him, and most have faced challenges. At the beginning of his Formula 1 career, things went smoothly for Carlos Sainz and Daniel Ricciardo, who were Verstappen's teammates without being blown away by his pace.

However, for Pierre Gasly, Alexander Albon, and Sergio Perez, things didn't go as well. All three were eventually let go by Red Bull due to disappointing performances and the large gap in results compared to Verstappen.

In 2024, Lawson again had the opportunity to race in several Grand Prixs. The previous year, he had already stepped in for Daniel Ricciardo, who broke his middle finger in Zandvoort. In 2024, Lawson replaced the Australian once more, but this time for the remainder of the season. The New Zealander raced in the last six Grand Prixs of 2024.

Liam Lawson Replaces Sergio Perez at Red Bull Racing

At the end of 2024, it became clear that Red Bull had to part ways with Sergio Perez due to the lack of strong results. The Austrian team then looked for his replacement. It seemed to come down to a choice between Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda. Eventually, at the end of 2024, it was announced that Lawson would become Verstappen's teammate at Red Bull Racing.

The period with Red Bull Racing was short lived. After two races Red Bull decided to demote Lawson back to Racing Bulls and replace him with Yuki Tsunoda for the Japanese Grand Prix.
