Priestley on criticism towards FIA: 'Things that can do with clarification'
- GPblog.com
In his new YouTube video, Marc Priestley discusses the situation surrounding Michael Masi and the criticism he faced following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The former F1 mechanic disagrees with the opinion of his viewers.
Many fans believe Masi should be fired after his controversial decisions in the closing stages of the all-deciding race. Priestley understands that opinion, but nevertheless disagrees.
"He’s very new to this job, he’s coming under very difficult circumstances. People make mistakes, horrendous mistakes." Priestley himself worked as a mechanic for McLaren, so he knows what it's like to make mistakes within this sport and what consequences it can have.
FIA launches investigation
"People make mistakes that can similarly affect race wins or losses and affect championships. You don’t get fired because you don’t get a wheel on properly at a pit stop", he continues.
According to Priestley, it is important that Masi is central to finding a solution. The Briton is confident that Masi, together with the stewards and the F1 teams, will succeed in this. The FIA announced last week that they are launching an investigation into the final laps of the race.
"There are definitely a number of areas that can do with clarification or clearing up, simplifying to some extent", the Briton finished.
