Honda is no longer involved in Formula 1, but the power unit will still be used in 2022. The expectations at Honda for next year are therefore certainly still high.

Despite Honda leaving Formula 1, Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri will still use the Honda engine in 2022. Red Bull has taken over the rights to the current power unit so they can develop an engine with the new Red Bull Powertrains. Meanwhile, Honda will still help where needed: "It has been decided that Honda will continue to provide engineering services."

Hope for a good fight

Honda does leave Formula 1 with its head held high after Max Verstappen became world champion. As such, the company has learned a lot and is ready to start using that knowledge for other projects.

Despite the goodbye, Masashi Yamamoto mainly hopes that Red Bull can win both championships next year with the current engine: "First of all, we hope that they will be able to compete for two championships in 2022, including the constructors' championship, which they missed out on in 2021," he told the Japanese Autosportweb. Moreover, they hope that AlphaTauri can also fight for podiums and victories.
