F1 boss hopes for Verstappen competition: 'Every driver is unique'

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton showed off some clever racing in 2021. Not only did they keep it exciting for a long time by scoring roughly the same number of points, but the drivers also showed their qualities with daring and guts. Stefano Domenicali is hoping for a similar season this year, although he also thinks that both men will struggle.
Last season, Red Bull Racing and Mercedes had by far the best cars in the driver's field, allowing both teams to jointly decide who walked away with the world championship. The rule changes should ensure that the teams are more competitive with each other in 2022, making the Formula 1 season more exciting.
"Of course, I hope that the duel will continue," the CEO points out in conversation with Sport.de to Verstappen and Hamilton. "If you ask me if we will see an extremely close field from the first race, I think not. But with the restrictions in car development and the upper limit of the budget, the gap should close faster."
Big compliments for Verstappen
Domenicali then also had a good word to say about Verstappen who won his first world title in 2021. According to the Formula 1 boss, we are going to have a lot of fun with the Dutchman. "Every driver is unique," he let us know. The first Grand Prix is scheduled for the weekend of March 20 and will take place in Bahrain.
