Nyck de Vries will start the new Formula E season this weekend. As reigning world champion he hopes to set a good performance in the first race, although things went wrong in the first free practice.

The Dutchman entered the track for the first time on Thursday afternoon to prepare for the race and could not avoid crashing. De Vries hit the wall with the side of his car and tried to correct his mistake. That turned out to be a hopeless task, so De Vries did not start his weekend very well.

His fellow countryman Robin Frijns is also competing in Formula E again this season. Frijns did not have to deal with a crash and finished in fifteenth position on the grid. Partly due to the incident with De Vries, Oliver Rowland managed to set the fastest time on the board.

Formula E season gets underway

Formula E will be back in Saudi Arabia in the coming days, after which the drivers will travel to Mexico in mid-February. Friday at 17:00 the first race takes place, where De Vries will do his best to do a lot better than on Thursday afternoon.
