De Vries on possible departure of Hamilton: 'It's not my concern'

Nyck de Vries will defend his world title in Formula E for Mercedes next season, but with all the rumors surrounding whether or not Lewis Hamilton will return, the Dutchman has also been mentioned as a possible replacement for the seven-time world champion.
De Vries not concerned with Hamilton
In 2019 Nyck de Vries became champion in Formula 2, but a seat in Formula 1 did not materialise. The Dutchman switched to Formula E where he competed for Mercedes. Last season, he became world champion in the class for electric cars. De Vries is also a test and reserve driver for the Formula 1 team of Mercedes.
Also for 2022, De Vries failed to secure a spot in Formula 1, although he was linked with Williams and Alfa Romeo. So the Dutchman will stay in Formula E for another year, but should Hamilton indeed leave Formula 1, De Vries is a good contender to replace him. "It's not my concern," De Vries said firmly. Formule1.nl who thus quickly dismisses the rumours.
Formula E season starts this weekend
De Vries is currently fully focused on the new Formula E season, which starts this weekend in Saudi Arabia. "I think there is no room for me to think about those scenarios," says De Vries about the rumours surrounding Hamilton. This weekend there are two races at the Riyadh Street Circuit. In total, the Formula E season has sixteen races at ten circuits. The season ends in August in South Korea.
