Domenicali hopes for 'real' chance for Schumacher
- GPblog.com
Mick Schumacher didn't score any points in 2021, but he still scored highly with F1 boss Stefano Domenicali. The Italian sees much of father Michael Schumacher in Mick. Domenicali hopes Schumacher will get the chance to showcase his talent in 2022.
Haas hasn't given Schumacher a chance yet
Along with Nikita Mazepin and Robert Kubica, the German was at the bottom of the rankings at the end of 2021 with zero points. Haas F1 did not have the car to take on the rest of the field. This fact leaves Schumacher's fans with an unsatisfied feeling. Indeed, according to many, the son of the seven-time world champion has not yet been able to show his worth in Formula One.
That is also the opinion of Domenicali who in conversation with F1-Insider.com says that he fervently hopes for a car for Schumacher that is capable of racing against the other teams. Indeed, the Italian believes that Schumacher did a good job in his debut year, but that his Haas car held him back from good results.
Schumacher just like his father
What Domenicali likes about the young German he further explains later in the interview. The Italian used to work at Ferrari where he had the pleasure of working with father Schumacher. He remembers Michael Schumacher's approach and sees it reflected in his son: "There are of course some details that remind me of Michael. His professional and dedicated work ethic, for example. He's just like his father there."
Domenicali's hopes for a stronger Haas car for Schumacher appear to be vain. Haas boss Guenther Steiner indicated earlier that the team will most likely be last in the field again. However, the Italian was a bit more positive, as there might be a step forward in some races. If so, Schumacher could show what kind of racing wood he is cut from.
