For Aston Martin, 2022 is an important year. Since taking over from Lawrence Stroll, the team has previously slipped backwards in the rankings. Although hard work is being done to bring the factory up to the level of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull and top people are being snatched up from various teams, performance has been disappointing for the time being.
The AMR22 should change that. Whereas the British team fell back to seventh place among the constructors in 2021 and here mainly pointed to the rule changes (which were detrimental to them) as the culprit, they should instead embrace the regulations for the 2022 Formula 1 season. At least with the Mercedes engine, there's plenty of power in the back of the car, so it can't be down to that.
Aston Martin is also sticking to the same lineup in 2022 as in 2021. With a four-time world champion, there is a great figurehead in the house, although Vettel was not able to impress in 2021. He did finish on the podium twice, but only got to keep one of them. However, this was still better than his Canadian teammate.
