Who will drive for the Alpine Academy in F2 and F3 in 2022?
- GPblog.com
Alpine has announced the new lineup for their academy. With Jack Doohan and Olli Caldwell joining Victor Martins and Caio Collet in the academy, the French team has no shortage of talent.
Alpine Academy
Alpine's training has come under intense criticism in recent years. Indeed, Alpine, formely known as Renault, have a lot of money left over to help talents in the entry-level classes, but has not yet offered their talents a chance in Formula 1. Guanyu Zhou finally got his chance at Alfa Romeo, not Alpine, and even for Oscar Piastri, Formula 3 and Formula 2 champion, no place in F1 opened up this year.
As the reigning F2 champion, Piastri will perform as Alpine's reserve driver in 2022, despite his credentials, and that doesn't look for the future prospects of an F1 seat for young Alpine talents. Still, their academy system is a great opportunity for young drivers to prove themselves in a project sponsored by Alpine.
Talents in F2 and F3
Jack Doohan and Olli Caldwell will compete on behalf of Alpine in F2 in 2022. Doohan finished second in the 2021 Formula 3 championship and will drive for the Virtuosi Racing team. Caldwell also drove in F3 last year, but was less successful, coming away with an eighth place finish and one win. The Briton will get his chance in F2 with Campos Racing.
In F3, Victor Martins and Caio Collet will compete yet again. Both drivers are racing in F3 for the second season in a row. Martins finished fifth in the standings last season with one win on behalf of the MP Motorsport team. The Frenchman will drive for the ART team in 2022. Collet also drove for MP Motorsport last season, and he finished ninth in the standings and was on the podium twice. The Brazilian will once again compete for the Dutch team in 2022.
