Ross Brawn is optimistic about the new cars that Formula 1 will run from 2022. According to the Brit, we can count on some surprises, especially among the younger drivers.
In an interview with Brawn where F1.com was present, he said that the teams still had to get used to the new rules. He expects that Formula 1 will improve because of the new cars.
More teams in with a chance
"There’s lots of optimism for the season and I think we'll see some interesting results this year from some of these young drivers who are coming through," Brawn revealed.
The Brit explained that every decision about the new cars has been made so that the field is closer together. According to Brawn, the best team will generally continue to win though.
Because of the new regulations it is to be expected that a number of teams from the midfield can join Red Bull Racing and Mercedes. This is not only because of the rules, but also because of the drivers says Brawn. He mentioned Lando Norris, the Ferrari drivers and George Russell in particular.
Winter tests are coming up
In the meantime eight teams have shown their car or livery to the world and it is striking that the new regulations have been interpreted very differently by the teams. From Wednesday 23 February onwards the first test week starts in Barcelona, then it will slowly become visible which teams perform best with the new regulations.
