Carlos Sainz has an expiring contract at the end of the season, but intends to remain loyal to Ferrari for longer. He tells that in an interview with Formule1.nl.

The Spaniard experienced his first season in Formula 1 last year. Whereas in the first Grands Prix he clearly had to struggle to catch up with his new team, he developed at lightning speed and managed to score important points in the final phase of the season. It resulted in a fifth place in the World Championship, giving him 5.5 points more than his teammate Charles Leclerc.

The Italian racing stable hopes to continue that streak with Sainz and Leclerc. With the launch of F1-75, as Ferrari's new car is called, it took a big step in the right direction. However, it is difficult to estimate how good Ferrari actually is in the new season compared to the competition.

Sainz expresses hope for longer stay

Behind the scenes, however, Sainz and Ferrari are busy talking about the future. Both parties seem keen to continue with each other, but as yet there is no signature on paper. However, Sainz let it be known in the conversation with the medium that he wants the negotiations to be completed as soon as possible, so that he can fully focus on the new season.
