Mocking Marko: 'McLaren is chasing sponsors here'

George Russell indicated after Thursday that he was impressed by Ferrari and McLaren. The young Briton stated that Mercedes is currently not faster than these two teams. Helmut Marko has a slightly different opinion of McLaren. According to the Red Bull Racing advisor the Woking-based racing team simply uses less fuel.
According to Marko, this explains why Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo are so good in terms of times. " McLaren is chasing sponsors," he says mockingly to Auto, Motor und Sport. Marko thinks McLaren is already shooting much more of its powder than a team like Red Bull does, for example.
The 78-year-old Austrian also has something to say about Ferrari. "Ferrari is definitely stable for once. But how much more fuel did they have on board?" Either way, it remains difficult to make predictions, but what is certain is that Marko is not so impressed that he is scratching his head behind his ears after the first week of testing.
