BREAKING | Haas terminates contract with Mazepin and Uralkali
- GPblog.com
Haas announced on Saturday morning that the contract with Nikita Mazepin has officially ended. The team also cancelled their deal with title sponsor Uralkali. Who will replace the Russian, the team has not yet announced.
For days there have been rumours that Mazepin would have to leave the team due to the war in Ukraine. Haas announced in an official statement that the contract with the driver has been terminated.
The team will announce early next week who will take over Mazepin's seat. On Instagram a Haas sponsor congratulated Pietro Fittipaldi on his seat for 2022 and Sky Germany also announced information about Fittipaldi as a successor. According to BILD, however, it will be Antonio Giovinazzi who will take a seat in the Haas.
Haas statement
"Haas F1 team has elected to terminate, with immediate effect, the title partnership of Uralkali, and the driver contract of Nikita Mazepin. As with the rest of the Formula 1 community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and wishes for a swift and peaceful end to the conflict," Haas said on Twitter.
Haas removed all colours and logos of title sponsor Uralkali from its cars and trucks during testing in Barcelona. Mazepin's father, Dmitry Mazepin, is the co-owner of the Russian company. What it will look like financially for Haas is unclear.
