Maylander gets new safety car: 'Almost a real race car'

Bernd Maylander will get a new safety car from Mercedes in 2022. Starting in 2022, the German will drive around in a Mercedes AMG GT Black Series. Mercedes' medical car has also been revamped for 2022.
New safety car from Mercedes
Since last year, Maylander can also lead the field during a safety car period in an Aston Martin in addition to his Mercedes. Mercedes is now ensuring that the German can get into a new car two years in a row, as Maylander will alternate the Aston Martin with a brand new AMG GT Black Series from Mercedes in 2022.
Maylander told Speedweek.com that he is very happy with his new car, "I have been able to use this extraordinary vehicle on numerous occasions and I am amazed at how close it comes to a real race car." The AMG GT Black Series has 730 HP under the bonnet and is full of aerodynamic gadgets.
Lights on the roof are gone
What makes the safety car a lot more special compared to its Mercedes predecessor is the absence of the signal beam on the roof. Instead of a large beam, the lights are now incorporated into the top of the windshield and the rear spoiler. This should improve the balance of the car.
