While most eyes were on the performances of the top teams during the tests, the only newcomer in Formula 1 also did his laps. On behalf of Alfa Romeo, Guanyu Zhou was behind the wheel. He ended the last test day with a respectable eleventh spot.
Potential
At times last week, Valtteri Bottas and Zhou showed that the Alfa Romeo has quite a bit of potential, although it remains to be seen how much of that will come to fruition this coming weekend at the Grand Prix. In any case, Zhou looks back on his first tests as a fulltime Formula 1 driver with a good feeling.
In a press release from his new team, the Chinese driver says he feels he has taken a step forward this week. "It’s nice to see constant progress from the team every day and to be able to get some proper short and long runs on a day when it all came together. I had my busiest day in the car and I was also able to go through the procedures that we’ll use during next week’s race weekend."
Great work
Next Sunday, Zhou will start his first Grand Prix. Until then, it's been busy for him. "I can be satisfied with the work we have done in pre-season. The team did a great job making me feel at ease and giving me the tools to prepare properly. I feel I am fully ready for the start of the season.”
