Carlos Sainz signed a contract until the end of 2022 over a year ago. It means that the Spaniard would then be without a team, but both parties have the intention to continue with each other. This is emphasized by Mattia Binotto in conversation with Corriere Dello Sport.

With Sainz in its ranks, Ferrari hoped to reach a high level again in 2022. While the Madrile-born had obvious difficulty staying close to Charles Leclerc at the beginning of the season, he managed to improve over the course of the year. It even ensured that he finished above his teammate in the world championship.

Due to the new regulations, Ferrari seems to have a chance to fight for the front places this season. With Leclerc and Sainz, the Italian stable thinks it has a strong team for the coming years, which is why it is doing its utmost to convince Sainz to stay with Ferrari.

Sainz himself is also reportedly open to extending his commitment. "We are working on it every day," Binotto reveals of the situation. "The intention is common and it's just a matter of details to reach a conclusion."
