Max Verstappen looked strong during the second free practice session of the Bahrain Grand Prix. The reigning world champion managed to set the fastest time of the session, but it seems that he has to take Ferrari into account. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were only slightly slower in the conditions representative VT2.

The Dutchman responds to The Telegraph. "Both the long and the short run felt good. It was actually a very smooth day. It all seems to be looking good."

Battle with Ferrari

Qualifying on Saturday promises to be exciting. According to Verstappen, nobody showed the cards of their sleeve during the first or second free practice. He says nobody has driven with very little fuel or with maximum power. "It's close with Ferrari, but on Saturday afternoon we'll all really see where we stand."

Verstappen got in the rhythm right away in Bahrain, but the same cannot be said for Sergio Perez. The Mexican conceded more than a second to the fastest time of his Dutch teammate. According to Christian Horner that picture is a bit distorted.
