Horner sees great fight: "We're set for it this season"
As they did seven days ago in Bahrain, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc engaged in a battle. This time it came at the end of the race as both drivers fought for the victory in Saudi Arabia. Red Bull boss Christian Horner and designer Adrian Newey see the fight continuing all year, including on the development front.
Verstappen secured his first win since becoming World Champion in Abu Dhabi concluding a fight with Lewis Hamilton. In 2022, Verstappen has a different rival alongside at the front of the grid. Newey, Red Bull's chief designer, is set for his own battle with one hand behind his back.
"You saw it in Bahrain and here, it's going to be a big development haul now with one hand behind our backs with the cost cap. With the budget cap, we have to target what we bring in and when. Our season has got off the mark, it's good to bounce back," Newey told Sky Sports with Horner adding "it's about the cost cap, where you place your development. Such new regulations the steps will be big and fast. Our opponents won't stand still."
Verstappen top marks
One of the most fascinating battles was the fight for DRS. Both drivers wanted it, and Horner praises the Dutchman's patience in the closing stages.
"That DRS is so powerful, neither driver wanted each other to get it. What a great race, an exciting last few laps but we had enough to bring it home. A patient race from Max looked after the tyres and after the safety car he went for it," Horner added.
