Surer on Las Vegas GP '81: 'Most F1-unworthy circuit ever'
- GPblog.com
The Las Vegas Grand Prix will return to the F1 calendar after a 31-year absence. According to the news coverage of the 2023 event, the differences from the 1981 GP are significant. If Marc Surer is to be believed, that's not a luxury.
Back in 1981, a Las Vegas GP took place in the parking lot of Ceasars Palace, and the drivers simply drove 75 laps around the parking lot there. The difference in size between the circuit of then and the announced 2023 circuit is enormous. According to former F1 driver Surer, this is not a luxury. The Swiss driver remembers it all too well.
Surer hopes for very different GP Las Vegas
Fomel1.de spoke to Surer, who said: "When I think of Las Vegas, bad memories come up. It's one of the most F1-unworthy tracks I've ever experienced. We drove in the parking lot of the Ceasar's Palace, just like in karting where you also drive in parking lots. Unworthy of Formula 1." The Swiss casually recalls that there were hardly any fans and he hopes that things will be very different in Las Vegas starting next year.
With the 14 corners of the new street circuit, it promises to be a fast track with a long straight down the famous Las Vegas Strip. Although it is still difficult to estimate how the cars will perform in the desert of America, we can already expect an incredible show in 'Sin City'. In addition, an overtaking maneuver on The Strip will also provide spectacular images.
