Wolff pleased with Hamilton and Russell: 'We performed well'

Mercedes experienced another difficult hour during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. The German racing team did everything possible to force good starting positions and with a fifth position for Lewis Hamilton and sixth place for George Russell, Toto Wolff was satisfied.
The Mercedes team boss was used to competing among the top teams in recent years, but that is not the case this year for the time being. In Australia Ferrari and Red Bull Racing managed to stay ahead of the competition, leaving Mercedes to once again focus on a place in the subtop.
Where Lando Norris managed to grab the fourth starting position, Mercedes closed in behind. "I think we performed too well," Wolff responded in conversation with Sky Sports. "Q3 was what we wanted to achieve. And that's what we did."
Wolff expects fight with McLaren
As Wolff also knows that Ferrari and Red Bull are too far away for now, he is therefore focusing on the battle with McLaren. With Norris in fourth place and Daniel Ricciardo in seventh, Sunday's race promises to be exciting. Mercedes is still in second place in the constructors' championship with a point ahead of Red Bull.
