Sergio Perez managed to secure a podium finish in the Australian Grand Prix. The Mexican obtained the second final position and could thus be satisfied with his own race. At the same time, he felt the disappointment of Max Verstappen.
The Dutchman was in second position for a long time, but suddenly experienced problems with his car. His team then ordered the reigning world champion to pull his car over and get out, which caused a lot of disappointment for Verstappen. It caused Perez to take not third, but second place.
"The race didn't go according to plan," Perez looks back in conversation with Sky Sports . "We had a lot of degradation on the tyres. I have an idea of what we did wrong, but it still needs to be analyzed. We were far away from Ferrari today. I think the setup of the car in qualifying and at the weekend hurt the degradation."
Perez expresses confidence in team
This is the second time this season that Verstappen has been sidelined due to problems. Despite Verstappen's exit, Perez remains behind his team. "Today we fundamentally did a few things wrong and we paid the price, but that's racing."
