Lewis Hamilton is hoping for better times at Mercedes. Whereas his goal this season was to compete for the world title, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing are far ahead of the German racing stable for now. Nevertheless, the seven-time world champion thinks his team can get closer soon.

Since the hybrid era, which started in 2014, Mercedes was the strongest team on the grid. Max Verstappen may have managed to win the world championship last season, but even in 2021 it was clear that the Germans had built the fastest car.

This year, however, the new regulations turned everything on its head. Ferrari suddenly appeared to be able to compete for prizes again, while Mercedes found out that partly because of the problems with porpoising it has to go in the chase for the time being. It causes a completely different mindset to be needed at Mercedes.

Hamilton expresses hope for Mercedes

With his ample experience, Hamilton knows all too well that he is by no means hopeless this season. Last year's number two hopes that Mercedes will quickly find solutions to the current problems. "Realistically, the top teams are developing at the same pace. Whether that will be the case with the new cars? Who knows," said Hamilton in conversation with Formule1.nl.
