'Schumacher can only go to Ferrari in three years' time'

Mick Schumacher hopes to follow in his father Michael Schumacher' s footsteps in the future by making the switch to Ferrari. If it were up to Franz Tost, the young German would not be ready for that for the time being.
Schumacher will be driving for the second year at Haas F1 in 2022. After a tough first season with a car that performed very underperforming, Haas seems to have its affairs in better order this season. Kevin Magnussen already managed to score points twice for the team, but Schumacher did not manage this yet.
Three years with Haas
According to Tost, Schumacher junior is not yet ready for the move to Ferrari. "He has to drive somewhere else for another three years," says the AlphaTauri team boss in conversation with F1-Insider.com. Tost reveals that Formula 1 is very different from the time when Michael and Ralf Schumacher started in F1.
"First, he has to consistently beat his teammate Kevin Magnussen at Haas and try to achieve success there. That's his job now and nothing else," said Tost. Beating Magnussen is not yet easy. In Australia, Schumacher was faster in qualifying for the first time and also finished ahead of the Dane in the race. He did so outside the points, however.
Situation drivers Ferrari
A switch to Ferrari in the short term seems out of the question. Charles Leclerc has a long-term contract with the Scuderia and Carlos Sainz has already indicated that he is about to sign an extension.
