Concerns for Pirelli: no time to test 2023 tyres
- GPblog.com
The full F1 calendar is a tough task for the teams. But not only they are experiencing how difficult it is to have a free day somewhere, tyre supplier Pirelli is also having problems right now.
Space is lacking
The rules stipulate that there are 25 days each season that Pirelli can have tyres tested by the teams, for example the prototype tires for the next season. However, the Italian brand notes that there is hardly any space in the calendar to get to 25 days. The only dates available are at those European circuits where the Grand Prix is not immediately followed by a back-to-back event.
For now, the Tuesdays and Wednesdays after the races in Imola, in Austria and Hungary are reserved for tests. Two teams are present at each test, so it comes down to 12 test days. Not nearly the prescribed number, in other words. Therefore, Pirelli hopes to be able to use two free practice days for tyre testing during the season, reports Motorsport.com.
