The Formula 1 season is in full swing, but behind the scenes the FIA is already putting together the racing calendar for the coming years. It is reported that the South African Grand Prix may return. Lewis Hamilton seems to think that is a good plan, he tells Formulapassion.it.

The race at the Circuit Kyalami was scheduled for many years in the past, but Formula 1 disappeared from South Africa in 1993. For some time now, the circuit's organizers have been trying to get around the table with the FIA and reach an agreement for a return of the event.

It would mean that, for the first time in years, a GP will take place in Africa. However, that's not the only reason Hamilton thinks it's a good idea to travel to South Africa for a Formula One race. "My ancestors are from there, so it's very important to me," said the seven-time world champion.

Hamilton faces hefty deficit

For now, however, Hamilton is busy enough trying to improve Mercedes' performance. The Briton experienced a rough season and is currently in fifth place in the world championship, 43 points behind leader Charles Leclerc.
