Rinus 'VeeKay' van Kalmthout has secured the second pole position of his IndyCar career. The 21-year old Dutchman set the fastest time at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama and can therefore start the race from the best starting position. Veekay stated in a reaction that he is very happy with the good result.
"I knew the potential was there, but still it went better than expected," Veekay explained in an official press release after qualifying. "We were hoping for participation in the Fast Six beforehand, and once I made it, the pressure was off."

He stressed that the pole position was a team effort and that the entire team made the right decisions to get the maximum result. "This is amazing, exactly what we needed," jubilates Veekay. As for the race, the goal is clear: "if you start from P1, you have to go for P1 at the finish as well."
After the first practice session on Friday, the 21-year-old Dutchman already made a predictive statement: "The last time we were this fast, we won the race." So far, Veekay and Ed Carpenter Racing seem well on their way to making that scenario come true again.
