Renault CEO Luca de Meo says he is pleased with the arrival of Porsche and Audi in Formula 1. The Italian is keen to see Alpine F1 Team compete with the big brands of the car industry.

Volkswagen enters Formula 1

According to De Meo, there is renewed interest in Formula 1. This was confirmed when Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess announced on Monday that Volkswagen is entering Formula One with two brands. Starting in 2026, Audi and Porsche will both partner with an existing F1 team on the grid.

Rather against Porsche than small constructors

De Meo encourages Volkswagen's entry into Formula 1. "Of course, it is easier to compete against a constructor that uses spare parts than against a legendary racing manufacturer like Porsche. We have found a balanced set of rules that allows us to strengthen the image of Formula 1," said the Italian in conversation with Corriere dello Sport.

"I am a romantic and I want to see the Ferraris, Mercedes, Aston Martin and Porsches fighting each other," De Meo continued. He adds that the choice to continue as Alpine in F1 instead of Renault was a logical one. Alpine is Renault's sports brand and brought the French tricolour to Formula One. De Meo thinks that is a better choice than using a popular brand like Renault.
