Pirelli unsure about strategy GP Miami: 'Two-stopper seems quickest'
- GPblog.com
What the best strategy is for the Miami Grand Prix no one knows yet, but it is clear that it will be a challenge. Tyre supplier Pirelli is assuming a two-stop strategy, where any type of tyre can be used.
On the official website of Pirelli the tyre manufacturer explains that it is difficult to predict the strategies for the race, given the lack of data from the new circuit. It is believed that a two-stop strategy will be the fastest option, but that will depend entirely on the tyre degradation on the hot asphalt.
Pirelli assumes two-stopper in GP Miami
"The strategy for tomorrow is not straightforward," explained Pirelli boss Mario Isola after qualifying. "It looks as though a two-stopper will be the quickest way to go, with all three compounds potentially playing an important role."
So which tyre will work best is hard to predict, but Pirelli assumes that a strategy that starts on the mediums and then switches to the hard tyre will be the fastest. The tyre supplier also assumes that the safety car will have to be called into action during the race, after red flags were raised in every free practice session.
