Latifi doesn't think Friday practice for De Vries says anything about future
- GPblog.com
Latifi is aware of the rumors about a possible dismissal, but he is certainly not worried. De Vries is mentioned in the corridors as a possible successor.
The 26-year-old driver has not yet been able to find the right form this season. That is also acknowledged at Williams, but team boss Jost Capito recently indicated that Latifi will be given time to regain his self-confidence. Still, it is a bit striking that De Vries, now also 27 years old, is being used in a Friday practice session for rookies.
Latifi laughs at rumours
Latifi waved the rumours away at Motorsport.com in any case. He states that rumours in Formula 1 are nothing new and that it is the nature of the sport. He says he was surprised that a reputable journalist would 'without any basis' put out stories that he believes are not based on truth. Latifi had to laugh about it, according to himself.
Latifi feels that internally there is still faith in him. The test for De Vries does not change that much for him. "For me and my job, I doubt this really changes much," he said. According to the teammate of Alexander Albon, it is good for the overall team perspective to have someone else in the car for a change. That way Williams can improve the car even further.
