Fernando Alonso was given a five-second time penalty a few hours after the Miami Grand Prix after he allegedly cut the track. At Alpine, they were furious about this and Alonso himself did not have a good word to say about the stewards' decision. The two-time world champion had to go for a meeting with the FIA.

The Spaniard called the race control "incompetent" and that was not taken kindly to by the international motorsport federation. In Spain, Alonso spoke with Mohammed Ben Sulaymen, the president of the FIA, and with that, the cold is out of the air, report the BBC.

Alonso had good conversation

For a while there were fears that the incident would have a tail end for Alonso in the form of a penalty, but everything was settled verbally. "I am very good friends with Mohammed. We all try to improve the sport and that is the aim for everyone," Alonso said of the conversation.

Alonso lost two points in the United States due to the stewards' intervention. The Alpine driver finished in the points once, thanks to a ninth place in the Bahrain Grand Prix. He had a lot of bad luck so far in 2022 and that is the main reason for his somewhat disappointing sixteenth place in the world championship. Teammate Esteban Ocon already collected 24 points in the first five races of the year.
