Ferrari was strongly criticized for the strategic blunders it made at the Monaco Grand Prix, especially in its home country of Italy. Gerhard Berger does not think this criticism is entirely justified.

The criticism from Italy was scathing: according to some, such blunders would even cause Ferrari to throw the championship into Red Bull Racing's lap. It was also stated that there is chaos and uncertainty at the Italian racing stable. This criticism was heard both in Italy and around the world.

Former Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger thinks that criticism is somewhat exaggerated. "Ferrari is criticized too much for the tactical mistakes last Sunday," the Austrian told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Berger thinks criticism of Ferrari is exaggerated

On the contrary, he thinks team boss Mattia Binotto deserves praise for the car Ferrari has put on the track in 2022. "We didn't expect that a few months ago," continues the current DTM boss.

Moreover, he points out that Ferrari had the better car in Monaco, although the team could not convert that into a win. Still, Berger stresses that second and fourth place are "not a disaster".

Like Sergio Perez, who is now starting to interfere in the championship, Carlos Sainz is also still dreaming of the title. Quite rightly according to Berger, who thinks it is too early to write off the Spaniard. "He is not far from the top, don't underestimate him," he concludes.

In the world championship standings, Max Verstappen leads with 125 points, ahead of Charles Leclerc with 116 points and Perez with 110 points. Sainz is behind them with 83 points.
