Ralf Schumacher criticizes Steiner: "Such statements are typical Güenther"
- GPblog.com
In the press release from Haas F1, Güenther Steiner warned that Mick Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen should avoid a collision at all costs in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend, because otherwise it could have nasty consequences for the American racing stable. Ralf Schumacher doesn't really understand what Steiner wants to achieve with it.
Schumacher is struggling at the start of 2022. Teammate Kevin Magnussen is faster and it is still waiting for the first World Championship point for the young German. In Jeddah and Monaco, Schumacher completely smashed up his car twice and that's costing the team a lot of money. Something the team can't use with prices skyrocketing due to inflation.
Steiner doesn't say it in so many words, but the reference about not being allowed to crash is obviously a message meant for Schumacher. Uncle Ralf is not for the first time critical of the team boss. "Such statements are again typical of Güenther Steiner. They leave too much to interpretation. It is superfluous. The team has also made many mistakes," he sneered to the German branch of Sky.
Schumacher and Haas F1 must improve
The former Formula 1 driver, with six victories to his name at the highest level, agrees that Schumacher does indeed need to make fewer mistakes, but at the same time he also notes that Magnussen is getting tougher and tougher. Compared to the start of the season, Haas F1 has still not implemented any updates. According to Steiner, the first major update package will not be available until the French Grand Prix.
