Ferrari is experiencing an excellent season in Formula 1 for the time being. With Charles Leclerc, they are managing to fight alongside Max Verstappen for the world title, although Mattia Binotto thinks his team still have some mountains to climb to actually achieve it.
The Italian racing stable is coming out of a tough period. In 2020 it experienced a low point by finishing in the middle of the table, but last season the formation started to climb the rankings. This season they are competing with Red Bull for the top positions.
Binotto covers Ferrari for now
The team boss knows that there is more to standing with the top prize at the end of the season. In an interview with the BBC, Binotto let it be known that for Ferrari it is first important to be competitive and that the world title would be an added bonus.
"We set our objectives to be back competitive in 2022," Binotto states. "So our objective is to be competitive, not to win the championship, and it would be completely wrong to turn that into: 'Let's try to win the championship because we are so competitive.' Being competitive is one fact; becoming world champion is another level of task."
