Sergio Perez was the fastest of the bunch in the first free practice session on Friday, but in VT2 he had to leave the fastest time to Charles Leclerc. The Mexican feels good in the RB18, because twice he managed to keep Max Verstappen behind him. The 32-year old driver knows that there are still some problems to be solved.

Verstappen again faced problems with his rear wing. The DRS clattered a lot on the straight, forcing Red Bull to make repairs at the beginning of the second free practice. Perez did not suffer from his rear wing, but FP2 did not go entirely smoothly.

"It was a good start to the day. FP2 didn’t go as good as we would have liked. We probably took some wrong directions with it. We were exploring, but it was just not coming. We weren’t able to sort out our problems," Perez told the Sky Sports camera.

Perez optimistic about qualifying

The team did manage to collect a lot of data during the longruns on the softs and mediums. Perez therefore hopes that the team can still solve the problems before qualifying on Saturday.

"But we have good data with both tyres in the longrun. I think there is good data for us to gather to go through it tonight. Hopefuly we can put it all together tomorrow for qualifying." said the Mexican driver.
